How We Review

There is no editorial secret to this. A page contains the following, and nothing more.

• What the maker says. The published specification, nothing paraphrased into a claim it does not make.
• What it cost. The listing price when we read it.
• What buyers scored it. Amazon’s average, held for 2,271 of our 2,298 products.
• What it looks like. The listing photograph, available for 2,291 products.

What the number is

When you see a score here, it belongs to Amazon’s buyers, not to us. We report the average as published. There is no house rating on this site.

What we have not done

This is the limit that matters: there is no hands-on testing here. We own none of this equipment. A page can tell you what the maker claims and what buyers scored it; it cannot tell you how the thing feels in year two.

What ends up on a list

Products come onto a page because they are the ones sold under the search a reader is likely to run. We do not accept payment for inclusion, and no brand has been given a place on a list.

About the prices

Prices go stale quickly. What is printed here is what the listing said at the moment it was read. Always check the current price on the product page before you buy.

Tell us about a mistake

If a specification is wrong, a product has been discontinued or a page implies something we have not earned the right to say, tell us on the contact page. Corrections are made to the page itself, not in a footnote.
